TRAVEL DIARY – DAY 12 & 13 FROM KINMEL GUEST FARM AND LODGE TO WALKERBOUTS INN, RHODES

Thursday and Friday, 10 & 11 September 2020.  The sun just came up over the mountains at Kinmel Guest Farm close to Rhodes where we had a great stay with our hosts, Willem and Wilna, recuperating after the ordeal we had with the Bergamont-near-death 😊 and roadside burial.  Today we are embarking on our journey over Naudés Nek Pass riding back towards Mount Fletcher and tonight, we will stay over with Dave Walker at Walkerbouts Inn, in Rhodes.

We dedicate day 12 to the amazing, friendly, and helpful people we met in Matatiele – specifically Mark McLoed of McLoed & Associates, Josh Watkins of Matat Engineering as well as Philip and Elrita Rawlins at Resthaven Guesthouse.  You guys are lifesavers.  Thank you for getting us back on the road.

Our route took us via Rhodes Village, Tenahead and uphill over Naudésnek Pass.  Between the Nek and the drop towards Rhodes, Gerhard stopped to build a stone pyramid for our colleagues in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, to remember the troubled times they are going through.  We made a quick visit to the Naudé Monument, a place of rich in history and legacy.

We are stoked to have the team of Moolman Pienaar Inc. in Potchefstroom as our Sponsors of Day 13.  They are ready and waiting to assist you with all your legal challenges and are just a click away.  Thank you for your support all the way from Potch.

During a wonderful visit with our accommodation host, Dave Walker, we learnt that he moved to Rhodes in 1990 and started Walkerbouts Inn in 1995.  The property has 7 lovely rooms equipped with many creature comforts, including electric blankets because it is not unusual for the temperatures to drop between -8 and -12 in the area.  Walkerbouts is a great stop over for any traveller and tourist making their way through Rhodes, and the hospitality is heart-warming and real.

A huge shout-out to the winner of our first Donor Lucky Draw, Julie Santini.  Julie donated an amount of R150 or more towards the Phat GM Tourism and Hospitality Fund on our website.  You could be our next winner, so please continue donating!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS, ACCOMMODATION SPONSORS, AND FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL DONATION MADE. WISH YOU WERE HERE!
